Program Outline

The Pharmacy Assistant Micro-Credential program is structured across 5 levels (195 total hours), with each level designed to focus on specific areas of knowledge and skill development. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with applied concepts to support progressive learning.

Level 1 – Pharmacy Foundations and Law

Duration: 39 Hours

This level introduces learners to the Canadian healthcare system and the role of pharmacy assistants within various practice settings. Learners explore professional ethics, workplace expectations, confidentiality, and applicable pharmacy regulations.

Level 2 – Advanced Pharmacy Practice and Business Operations

Duration: 39 Hours

This level focuses on pharmacy workflow and operational processes, including inventory management, medication storage, and basic pharmacology concepts. Learners are introduced to billing, pricing, insurance processes, and the use of pharmacy-related technology systems.

Level 3 – Communication for Pharmacy Assistants

Duration: 39 Hours

This level emphasizes communication skills required in healthcare environments. Learners develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills, cultural awareness, teamwork, and conflict resolution strategies applicable to pharmacy settings.

Level 4 – Pharmacy Calculations and Applied Pharmacology

Duration: 39 Hours

This level introduces pharmacy calculations, prescription interpretation, and drug classifications. Learners explore medication safety principles and develop accuracy and attention to detail in pharmacy-related tasks.

Level 5 – Prescription Practice and Field Readiness

Duration: 39 Hours

This level focuses on applying learned knowledge in simulated or practical environments. Learners are introduced to prescription intake processes, workflow responsibilities, workplace readiness skills, and preparation for entry into pharmacy support environments.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status
  • Basic proficiency in English (reading, writing, and communication)
  • Basic computer literacy to participate in program activities
