The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Prime International College prepares compassionate individuals to deliver quality care and make a real difference in people’s lives. Through classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, and supervised practice, you’ll develop the knowledge and confidence to support clients in long-term care, community, and home-care settings.

  1. Fundamentals of Personal Support Work
     Learn the foundations of care, client rights, and the PSW’s professional role within Ontario’s healthcare system.
  2. Health, Safety, and Infection Control
     Master safe work practices, body mechanics, and infection-prevention techniques used in hospitals and care facilities.
  3. Human Development and Aging
     Understand how physical, cognitive, and emotional changes affect individuals
    across the lifespan.
  4. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
     Develop strong communication and teamwork skills essential for building trust with clients and colleagues.
  5. Cognitive and Mental Health Support
     Gain practical strategies to assist clients experiencing cognitive decline, dementia, or mental health challenges.

     Develop accuracy and professionalism in reporting, documentation, and
    ethical decision-making.
  10. Field Practicum
     Apply your classroom learning through supervised training in real healthcare settings, gaining valuable on-the-job experience.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status

  • Grade 12 English (C or U) or equivalent

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check

  • Proof of immunization as required by healthcare partners

  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification
